A Construction Estimator is responsible for determining the costs associated with construction projects. They analyze the scope of work, prepare detailed cost estimates, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure projects are completed within budget. The role involves evaluating materials, labor, time, and other resources to create accurate forecasts for the total cost of construction projects.

Salary- $75,000 to $100,000 a year

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation. Estimate costs for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Work with project managers to establish a budget and ensure that projects are completed within the financial limits. Regularly update cost estimates as the project progresses.
  • Tendering and Bidding: Review project proposals, prepare competitive bids, and assist in the preparation of tenders for potential contracts. Analyze competitors’ bids and make recommendations.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits and assessments to gather information on project scope and conditions. Collect data on materials, equipment, labor availability, and other factors influencing the cost.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project stakeholders such as architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and ensure accurate estimates.
  • Cost Control: Track the cost of construction projects, compare actual costs with initial estimates, and identify areas for cost savings or discrepancies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Project; estimating software experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of construction codes, standards, and guidelines.
